FAQ

HOW DO I KNOW IF THERAPY IS RIGHT FOR ME?

People come to therapy for many different reasons. Some of which include things like stress surrounding major life transitions, grief and loss, relationship challenges, identity exploration, negative self-image, overwhelm, hopelessness, emotion dysregulation, anxiety, depression, trauma, social stressors, fatigue, rage, difficulty coping and more. Therapy is about better understanding ourselves and finding effective tools to promote more meaning in life. If you are unsure if therapy could help what you are struggling with, feel welcome to schedule a consultation to discuss it together!

HOW DO I KNOW IF THERAPY IS WORKING?

We will collaboratively work to identify your needs and goals for therapy as a means of measuring your growth and development. Overtime, we will review and assess these goals to evaluate the progress and changes that you are hopeful to experience.

ARE YOU THE RIGHT THERAPIST FOR ME?

It is important that you find a therapist that is a good fit for your individual personality and needs. I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation prior to beginning sessions to better establish if we are a good fit for one another. Many people have a good sense of if a therapist is right for them after a phone consultation or within the first 1-3 sessions. I believe individuals are incredibly resilient and can heal from difficult circumstances. I value each person’s unique identities and offer a non-judgmental space for growth. My aim is to create a safe and trusting therapeutic environment that equips you to achieve your individual goals, ultimately enriching your life. You can read more about my therapeutic approach and experience on the About and Counseling pages.

CAN YOU PRESCRIBE MEDICATION?

As a mental health therapist, I am unable to prescribe medication. Medications for mental health symptoms are typically prescribed by a primary care physician, nurse practitioner, or psychiatrist.

DO YOU PROVIDE IN-PERSON SESSIONS?

At this time all sessions are held via telehealth through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. It is generally understood that telehealth sessions are equally as effective as in-person sessions for most individuals.

DO YOU ONLY WORK WITH CLIENTS IN MICHIGAN, INDIANA, AND TEXAS?

Yes. Due to licensing laws that vary by state, I am currently only licensed in Michigan, Indiana, and Texas which means my clients must physically be located in one of these states in order for our sessions to take place.

WHAT DOES THERAPY COST?

I offer an optional FREE 15 minute phone consultation prior to the start of therapy.

Initial Evaluation Session: $200; Following Sessions (45-60 min): $160

These rates are commensurate with my licensure, years of experience, specializations, and average area costs.

To increase accessibility of my services, I offer reduced rates through a non-profit, work together with anti-trafficking organizations to subsidize therapy expenses, and provide a number of sliding-scale slots.

HOW DO I PAY FOR THERAPY?

Payments are made through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform via credit, debit, or HSA card.

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

I do not accept insurance, however, I am able to offer superbills (itemized, coded medical receipts) for those who seek to utilize out-of-network benefits with their insurance plan.

Some clients prefer to self-pay for their sessions (to pay out-of-pocket without seeking reimbursement from their insurance). Insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis to be submitted with all claims in order to justify “medically necessary” treatment (for both in-network and out-of-network claims). As such, some choose not to utilize the out-of-network benefits.

If you would like to pursue out-of-network benefits, I recommend calling the customer service line on the back of your insurance card to inquire about what benefits you may have for out-of-network mental health care.

You may consider asking questions such as:

  1. Do you cover out-of-network benefits for mental health therapy/psychotherapy via telehealth?

  2. What is my deductible, co-pay, or co-insurance? Does this impact my out-of-network coverage?

  3. How quickly should I expect to receive reimbursement? How many sessions are covered in a calendar year? Are there any limits?

  4. How do I submit my superbill each month? Are there any time-limits I should be aware of?
